Admissions - Does LYBS offer transportation options for students?

An extensive network of school buses operated by Shanghai Daoshun Automobile Service company, which stretch up to 10 kilometres around our campus, can transport your student safely to and from school every day, should you opt for the option.

Admission - When is LYBS’ application deadline?

Admission to grades 1, 6 and 10 follows government regulations (online platform), as per the instructions and guidance from the respective Education Bureau. In all other grade levels, we follow a rolling admissions process throughout the school year. Every semester, our school admits a small number of transfer students according to the vacancies that arise in each class. At present, the primary and middle school integrated classes, as well as the English division of our high school accept transfer students who meet the requirements for admission. The national division of our high school does not accept transfers. Overall, we strongly advise parents to finalize their student’s registration by the end of July for Semester 1 and end of December for Semester 2 to avoid frustration and disappointment.

Academic - What is he language of instruction in the LYBS high school?

Chinese in the national division and English in the English division offering international programmes.

Academic - My child doesn't speak enough Chinese. Will they cope?

Yes! With quite a few nationalities represented in our community we have a lot of experience teaching children Chinese and supporting their smooth transition and immersion. It is not possible to say how long it takes before a student is proficient in Chinese, as it can be anything from a few weeks to many months.

Academic - What has been the success rate of the students attending the LYBS high school English division international programmes?

Since our international programmes were introduced, more than 57% of the students have been admitted to top 20 universities in the world; 80% of the graduates have been admitted to top 100 universities in the world, and 100% of our graduates have been admitted to overseas universities of their choice in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and other countries.

Academic - What textbooks and other learning resources do you use?

When it comes to compulsory education, i.e. grades 1 to 9 and the national division of our high school we follow all rules and regulations by the respective authorities. In the English division of our high school and our international programmes, we use the best textbooks, companions and reference books available in the market, from all over the world, to support our students in their learning journey and future academic and professional success.

Academic - What kind of curriculum do you offer at LYBS?

In grades 1 to 9, we offer the Chinese National Curriculum (CNC) supported by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary and Middle Years Programme (PYP, MYP) frameworks, as a fully authorised school. During the years of compulsory education, grades 1 to 9, we offer two strands, bilingual classes and integrated classes. In our bilingual classes, our students study the CNC and are exposed to more opportunities to use the English language. In our integrated classes, our students still follow the CNC however, English becomes the second major language of instruction and inquiry. In high school, we are currently offering the Chinese university entrance pathway, alongside the Ontario Curriculum (Canada) and the Common Core curriculum with Advanced Placement (AP) options (USA). LYBS is currently also a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme, which we are going to begin offering upon authorization, September 2021 onwards, to our high school students.
