LYBS is a twelve-year private bilingual school, best described by its iconic location in leafy Minhang district, downtown Shanghai. Over the past 30 years, more or less, it has educated thousands of students.

Our visionary founder, Mr. Liu Fuxing, a native of Henan Province, was born in September 1940 in the city of Xinyang. In 1959, he enthusiastically embarked on the field of education. Since then, his affinity with learning motivated him to make important contributions to private education. From 1959 to 1969, he taught in Jiangxi Jiujiang Agricultural College, Shanghai Changchun Middle School, and Shanghai Dongting Middle School. Furthermore, from 1969 to 1988, he served as director of general affairs and manager of Shanghai Hongqi Middle School and Shanghai Xingzhi Normal College. Moreover, from 1988 to 1993, he worked as director of the training department and general office of Shanghai TV Secondary Specialized School. In 1992, he established Liaoyuan Education, a brand that covers multiple education levels and models such as early years, primary school, middle school, high school, secondary specialized education, college of further education, international classes and student training centers, and served as chairman and principal till 2014.

Our founder’s vision is evident everywhere when visiting our school. You cannot help but sense a buzz: students and staff alike exude enthusiasm for the opportunities that an education here provides, and it is this education that carries Mr. Liu’s aim for the school, i.e.  to inspire the key qualities of conviction, exchange, curiosity, forethought and leadership to support its mission and provide a holistic, bilingual education supporting cultural diversity, beliefs and values and as such help develop the whole child for them to become successful global citizens and lifelong learners for a better future.

Within this context, we are committed to preparing respectful, positive-thinking and inquisitive young minds for the rapidly changing demands of the twenty-first century and beyond. We understand that this requires an understanding of the society of which they are part for they must be aware. It requires a broad range of skills, academic and otherwise for they must be ready. But, most of all, it requires empathy and understanding for they must be kind.

Equally important is our determination to make an LYBS education available to as many students from all over China as possible and fulfil our founder’s dream. We are all proud to be part of the LYBS family that has this as a central priority, and we are very grateful to all who help us to make this happen.
